Read MoreMario Odyssey of the newest entry in the long line of games about a plumber that I don't think actually has any plumbing experience. And, if memory serves, the first new 3D version of the game since Mario Galaxy 2 . In this have Bowser has, unpredictability, kidnapped Princess Peach! I know, such a plot twist. This time he has even sent it wedding invites though. But he made a grave mistake, he pissed off a magic top hat! Sure Bowser has perfected his plan on stopping Mario, but Mario with a magic hat? Doom has arrived on Bowser's door stop. Or at least it will once Mario and Cappy (the aforementioned hat) have finished gathering a band for his old girlfriend, Paulina.
Read MoreCapcom had a showing of the newest entry in the MvC universe, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite . The booth had two ways to play, versus mode and the full story. The full story takes about 30 minutes to run through, so their is a little substance there. The versus mode was the popular draw, although this may have been due to the faster line. Cari and I went head to head in a one round match. The gameplay was quick with here making heavy use of here infinity stone to keep me close to her preventing me from using ranged attacks. The game was fun and I look forward to the full relase when it comes out.
Co-op + platformer is an ancient combination. The earliest on I remember playing was the first Toe Jam and Earl for the Sega Genesis. Since then it has been done and done again. As such it can be hard to make good on any new entry in the genre. But Knack 2 seems to do a decent job.
Read MoreWatched the Monster Hunter World gameplay demo at the PlayStation booth. It was an impressive demo. It started on a single player mode showcasing how to track monsters given a little information. On this case we were told to search for mucus that identified the creature's territory. From their special tracking flies were able to find more mucus, and eventually our monster. This feature looks like it can greatly reduced the time searching and increase the time fighting.
Read MoreLast night was the Playstation E3 2017 Conference. This conference was much different from the other presentations. Instead of having someone on the stage talking things up they let the games speak for themselves. It was essentially an intro followed by a bunch of trailers followed by a closing short speach. So what all did they show?
Read MoreOK, Ubisoft's turn on the stage. And they started out with the crazy rabbits teasing the partnership between Nintendo and Ubisoft with Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battles. Of course who better to share the announcement then Miyamoto. The game is a tactical turn-based adventure battle that involves hand held cannons. Can you save the Mushroom Kingdom from the rappids that accidentally invaded your dimension?

First off was the elephant in the room, Project Scorpio, or as it is now known, Xbox One X. Would it kill them to use the code names for actual product names? I really like a lot of the code names. The system will be out on 11/7 world wide at $499. The system has a 6 tereflop GPU at 1.172 Ghz, 12 GB of RAM, and 32GB/s of bandwidth. What this basically comes down to is the system is super powerful and supports 4K in the truest sense of the word. Also the accessories and games will be backwards compatible with the the new system. They are also reporting that if you don't have a 4K TV games will look great on a 1080P TV. In order to keep the infamous red ring of death at bay they have introduced a liquid cooled vapor chamber. And the blasted thing is also pretty small. It is barely bigger then the controller.
Read MoreHi readers! I've had meetings three nights this week, which has prevented me from doing a large number of geeky things. However, I did manage to have a little bit of fun, so let's talk about that.
I found some time to watch Dr. Strange during the week. This is likely my favorite Marvel movie to date. I felt like there was a more realistic portrayal of a hero's journey, with a person who is obviously brilliant and studious, but not an expert at the new thing he is trying to do. Which was a bit refreshing compared to the typical white savior complex. It does continue the Marvel tradition of well shot action scenes and some creative special effects. The reality bending scenes were especially effective. And, by the mid-point of the movie, I managed to forget that Benedict Cumberbatch was playing the lead. That is, the character was showing through more than the actor.
Also, Volume 1 of the Steven Universe soundtrack was just released, and I am immensely enjoying having access to those songs at all times.
That's all for this week. Game on!
Today E3 was thrown into full gear by the EA Play Conference. There were some impressive announcements made, the biggest being the the most expected. So lets jump into things.
I am going to start with the last thing they announced as it was the one that I was looking forward to the most, and the one that almost made me forget about the rest of the conference, Star Wars Battlefront II.
