Maze: The Megaburst Space
By: Assimilator

Synopsis/Storyline
Maze is a nice fantasy anime that show that has a moral that saying that friendship conquers all.  It also has a wonderful mecha element, making this show a decent multi-genre anime.  It starts with our confused hero Maze sleeping/unconscious in her attic apartment; only the rest of the house is missing.  As she awakes she looks around a finds she cannot remember anything except this is not where she is from and becomes very freaked out.  However she does find that with her arrival in this strange new world, she has new powers and is quickly recruited as a bodyguard for a princess (her name is Mil) that has just lost her country.  So Maze soon makes it her mission to assist in the restoration of Mil’s title.  But this is as always easier said then done, at least until Maze discovers she is a Master Luminator, fancy word for a spell caster in this world, and has the ability to attack people with amazing abilities, and even use a mech that mill can summon, to bad she is a pacifist.
But this all changes at sunset and her body goes through miraculous changes, and turns into a guy that has full knowledge of these powers and is very set on protecting Princess Mil, who affectionately starts calling Maze her Big Sister/Brother.  Male maze is the near opposite of Girl Maze in that he is more outspoken, violent, and lecherous then she is.  Two of these three change for Girl Maze as the series goes on.
So now the stage is set, you have the hero, the princess in distress, and kingdom that must be saved.

Story/Character Development
The story here has both a simple arc to follow with some small confusing elements.  The line “I hate time travel” pops into mind for me here.  But as long as you pay attention to the anime instead of doing something else while it is on, you should be able to follow it pretty easily.  As for character development there are only really two characters that you will get some big changes on, the tomboy knight and Maze.  But the development that does happen is rather good, and for the other characters, hey, they work.

Animation/Music Quality
The animation for this series is done quite well actually, the fight scenes are done rather well and the action is always easy to follow, it will never really leave you wondering what just happened and why unless it was written that way in the script.  The mechs also look quite nice, and since they are partially organic they seem to flow really well, at least in my humble opinion. And most importantly, the explosions are done well done, letting you know just who was in the blast of doom that just happened.  The music for the series is also done well, and I can’t think of anywhere that the music did not fit the scene.

Voice-Acting/Fan service
The voice acting in Maze is all done really well, the dubbed voices still match the mouth movements for the most part, and no ones voice is overly annoying with the exception of one character, and that would be Mil and her constant mewing at Maze.  That is truly the most annoying part of the series, but once you get past hearing it, you will be fine.
Now some of you may have heard rumor this is a very ecchi series, and it is, only if you watch the OVA.  The actual TV series keeps the fan service for the guys to a minimum with one of the characters wearing a skimpy top for her regular outfit and one hot spring episode.  Mil’s outfit is pretty skimpy as well, but she is too young for me to consider her fan service.  Now if you are a girl watching this two of the guys may appeal to you, Man Maze constantly has his shirt un-buttoned and un-tucked while another guy is almost nothing but muscles.  Other then that, not real fan service and unless you watch the OVA, there is no frontal nudity that shows anything.  There is some slight nudity in the hot springs episode, but they are all in the fetal position hiding their naughty bits.

Overall
Overall this is a fun series to sit down and watch.  The characters make things entertaining and all have there own little ways of contributing to the fight, whether it be magic, mechs, needles, or giant swords.
