A Treatise on Units of Measurement
By Proteus

Many of you who are familiar with my articles will note that I use the MegaFonzie (MFz) as my primary unit of measurement in rating games.  Hopefully, you are familiar with the use of the MegaFonzie as the American standard unit for the quantitative measurement of coolness.  In this article, I present to you, some of the other measurements of coolness.

The first unit that I will cover is the Conery (sC).  This unit is of course name for the Scottish actor, Sean Conery.  Conery is most famous for his portrayal of the British spy James Bond.  In this role, Conery was known for always getting the girl.  For this reason, the Conery is the unit assigned to the SI system to measure Pimpitude.  Due to the relatively recent discovery of Pimpitude, there is not yet an equivilent American unit.  Scientists widely expect the Conery to become the worldwide standard in the next few years.

The next unit is also a part of the SI system.  The MegaDepp (MDp) is the SI equivalent of the MegaFonzie.  The MegaDepp is named after American actor Johnny Depp.  Depp is famous for his work in Pirates of the Carribean, where he played the mildly crazed pirate, Jack Sparrow.  Now, I know what many of you are going to say.  Depp is an American.  Why is he the namesake for the SI unit of coolness?  The answer is quite simple.  Depp has spent most of his recent life abroad.  When German scientists where looking for a simpler way to measure coolness, (the MegaFonzie is somewhat awkward) they looked to the coolest person on the European continent at the time.  I told you it was simple.  By the way, 1 MFz = 1.165 MDp.

I hope you have enjoyed this brief glimpse of the realm of lesser know scientific units.  I’d like to state now, that if you don’t understand parody, that you probably also don’t understand my jokes, and you shouldn’t be reading this.  Hopefully, I will be back next week with another look at lesser know (and perhaps fictional) scientific units.
