Best RPG

Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360, PC)

Fallout: New Vegas (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

Final Fantasy XIII (Xbox 360, PS3)

Receiving a Gameslave Award for the Best RPG is an extreme undertaking.  A great RPG takes time and dedication.  Developers have to keep gamers engrossed in its gameplay while not straying from the traditional RPG feel.  While there may not have been a huge number of successful RPG’s this year, we had some great ones.  I will take quality over quantity any year.

The prestigious Gameslave Award for Best RPG goes to Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360, PC).  This should come as no surprise.  Mass Effect 2 was able to grab a hold of not just traditional RPG gamers, but also shooter gamers.  There are some gamers out there who don’t like RPG’s.  They feel that RPG’s are too story driven and not enough action.  Well, Mass Effect 2 finds a perfect balance between the two.  At first glance, Mass Effect 2 appears to be a third person action shooter.  But when you dive into the game, it’s clearly a RPG, and a damn good one at that.   Mass Effect 2 was able to bridge the gap for gamers that usually wouldn’t play RPG’s to give them a try, thus making it the clear favorite for RPG of the year.
