The Professional Gamer - July 4, 2015

Happy Independence Day! (And a Happy Canada Day to our northern readers!)  Due to the holiday, I've had a short week at work; which means that I've been able to enjoy some geeky time.  Most of my day was spent (re)learning how to play a space-sim.  But I had a lot of fun with it.  Read on to learn more!

Reading/RPG: Although I am (ostensibly) reading Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, I am actually reading the Traveller RPG core rulebook in preparation for us to start a game.  We tried to create some characters last week, but had a bit of a false start.  After some additional reading this week, we are hoping to try again this weekend.  I'm really excited to start playing in a science fiction game, since that is a genre that I have not explored with my gaming group for a long time.  Honestly, the closest we got was Space Opera/Fantasy.

Watching: I've continued watching Samurai Jack, but have largely been spending time getting my other friends to watch all of Steven Universe.  Which has been a lot of fun, and led to Crystal and I speculating about where the show is going to go in the future, but does take time away from watching new stuff.  But watching stuff with friends is such an enjoyable activity that I wouldn't pass it up for anything.

Playing:  I didn't spend a lot of time playing video games during the week; but, I had the day off on Friday.  I ended up spending most of my time during the day playing Elite: Dangerous, a game that I purchased several months ago, but hadn't spent much time playing.  Spending more time in the tutorials to make sure that I understood how to do those basic repetitive tasks (docking, embarking, jumping, etc.) has made the game much more enjoyable.

That's all that I've got for this week.  I'll have participated in my favorite short (4km) race at Avery Brewery in Boulder.  All of the rest of you, have a safe and happy Independence Day!  Game on!
