E3 - Last Year and This Year

Hey everyone! Carebear here sharing a few thoughts about my hopes for E3 this year. The convention is in less than a week and it looks like we are in for a treat! So, to start I thought I’d take a quick look back at some of the things we saw last year that are now a reality and then look at some of the things I either want to see or think might have a presence based on what I saw last year. Let’s start off by taking a little trip down memory lane and look back at games that were demos a year ago that we have now spent countless hours playing.

There were a lot of games that looked amazing last year and we’ve gotten a few of them and I must say I was not disappointed in what was released. Let’s start things off by talking about not only a game but also a console. That’s right I’m talking about the Nintendo Switch and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. What an amazing game to release! The console is not bad either. We pre-ordered ours and have been playing the game since it came out. The main antagonist, Ganon has been beaten but there are so many shrines and Koroks to find and explore, it’s amazing! The game was demo’d on the Wii U last year and it looked great then but the switch has some decent graphics, making the game look beautiful! We purchased a lot of things for Nintendo products this past year. We have Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon as well as Harvest Moon: Skytree Village. Admittedly I have played more Harvest Moon this year but they were all great additions to our game library. This year I’m hoping to see more for the Switch since there aren’t very many games yet. Rumor is that there will be a new Mario game. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to play a little bit of it in a few days.

Sony PlayStation also had a few games that we have since added to our collection. I personally have been playing some Persona 5 and am enjoying it so far. It’s a great combination of two of my interests, video games and anime. I can’t wait to see what Atlus has in store this year. Chris has recently started playing Horizon Zero Dawn and from what I’ve seen it looks good as well. The graphics continue getting better and better, making gameplay more enjoyable. I’m hoping to get more time this summer to play some other titles for PlayStation that make use of the amazing graphics as well.

Admittedly last year I personally didn’t play any games for the Xbox, it was very busy and I was a little impatient so this year I’ll make more of an effort to see what they’ve got. I have also heard that Microsoft is going to announce something about the Scorpion, maybe they will have a demo or something we can see close up.

Ok, now that the mini review is out of the way let’s talk about what I hope to see more of or what I think will have more of a presence. Last year we also saw a lot of VR, and I mean a lot! I think this year since, the technology is quickly improving, we will see more games and more high quality interactive software. PC gaming has also been popular again (looking at you Overwatch) so I’m hopeful there are either computers or accessories that will continue to make this type of gaming accessible to everyone. I’m also hopeful for PC games, I have a feeling that we’ll see a few more since Star Wars Battlefront II is rumored to appear but I’ll have to be patient (I’m not good at that guys). I’ve heard rumors that South Park’s Fractured but Whole will have a more involved experience (hoping there’s gameplay) since this looks to be just as good as Stick of Truth. The last thing I’ll talk about as far as hopes is the Playtable. There was a little bit of a demo last year for this digital board game table, highlighting some of its abilities but I’m hoping they come back this year with even more to demo since it’ll be (hopefully) soon.

Well, that’s it for now. We look forward to bringing you some exciting things next week. Game on!
