For the first time in 17 years Blizzard announced their first actual new franchise, Overwatch. A game set 60 years in the future and 30 years after a robot uprising. When the robot uprising over whelmed individual government armies they formed the world wide peacekeeping force, Overwatch. Here is the trailer to set the stage.Read More
Destiny, it is a word that carries a lot of weight. It is used mostly when someone believes that a fate is inevitable and usually important. It was Luke's destiny to become a Jedi. It was Billy <something> destiny to wield the power of Shazam. And it was Bungie's destiny to come out with a new sci-fi shooter. But not all destinies are good ones. Is Destiny worthy of the name it represents?Read More
The long awaited Destiny beta has started for Playstation, and will be starting for Xbox on 7/23. I have been lucky enough to snag a key, or I just pre-ordered the game, and have spent some time playing the game to get a first impression. So far, impressions are good. In order to avoid text spoilers I am going to avoid talking too much about the story which I did on this weeks podcast.Read More
So I was going to do a full write up on Planetside 2 at E3, but then I felt it would be much better explained by one of the game designers, John Wonders.
In 1997 3D Realms started making a game. This game would win many a vaporware award and when the company tanked in 2009 the game was called dead. Little did anyone know a few months later the warlock Randy Picthford at Gearbox Software would perform dark magics learned in Hollywood (where else would you learn dark magics) and resurrected the fallen title. This game is known as Duke Nukem Forever. Now 14 years after it was concieved the title has made its way to the public. Now I don't really have high hopes for this game; that will not stop me from playing it though. The game is 14 years old (technically) so I will treat it as if it has the maturity of a boy the same age. Also any company that is willing to stick with one title this long and not just scrap it deserves my time. This will also be the first full title that I play on OnLive, so here is hoping this all works for the best.
You may have heard about this small game that is in the works for 11/08/2011 called Modern Warfare 3. Now normally I would let IrishPride report on this as it is not my type of game, but this one looks a bit interesting. Also I felt that we should actually say something about what is bound to be one of the most anticipated games of the year. This time it looks to take place all over the world in American and European cities during what is (lets see if you guessed this one) World War 3. The trailer does look pretty awesome, so give it watch, and then let me know what you think.
As many of you know, the newest Call of Duty: Black Ops was released this past Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Well, Activision was happy to announce that the popular franchise's latest installment has sold a staggering 5.6 million copies in the United States and the United Kingdom on the first day! The larger number is that the total revenue generated was $360 million. This was a solid increase over their last entry, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which sold a respectable 4.7 million copies and a total revenue of $310 million on its first day.
I think it's safe to say, baring an unforeseen monumental collapse, the Call of Duty franchise is stronger than ever and FPS fans should expect quality shooters, both single player and multiplayer, for many years to come.
