SWTOR - Free-to-Play

Do you like Star Wars? Of course you do, who doesn't (opening a whole can on worms on that one). Then do you like free stuff? Again, easy answer on that one. In that case then you should be happy to hear that BioWare and EA have released the Free-to-Play version of Star Wars: The Old Republic today! So if you never played it when it came out last year, or want to visit some old friends now is your time. Long time meat bag fans of the BioWare Star Wars games will also be glad that, as of today, you will be able to get the deadly HK-51 Assassin Droid. This is in addtion to a new area, the prison world of Belsavis along with a the new Operation: Explosive Conflict on Denova (complete with nightmare mode). So prime that blaster and polish your lightsaber crystals (you think OCD Jedi/Sith do that?) and enjoy the game.

The Gameslave Podcast - Episode 119

OK, this week I messed up on the recording device on the computer and go the audio from the laptops built in microphone instead of the one we normally use. This means that it has all sorts of echo and extra sounds. Sorry about that, but we do have an overal good podcast.

Notes are here.

This Week(ends) Geek - Your Legacy

This week BioWare updated Star Wars: The Old Republic with the first parts of their legacy system. A quick review of this system for those not familiar with it is the legacy system allows work on one toon to carry over to your other toons. One example of this is a bounty hunter's buff would be added to a sith inquisitor's buff. But this got me wondering, what is my gaming legacy?

Best Voice Acting of 2011

Remember when all they NPC's spoke in text boxes if they spoke at all?  That was a much simpler day, and sometimes still a better option (looking at you Metroid: Other M).  But now with larger storage abilities and greater technologies our characters are coming alive.  There are bringing emotions and urgency to our quests that did not exist before.  I know I am more likely to complete quests a little bit sooner if the NPC actually makes me feel the urgency.  To that we offer our nominees for the best voice acting of 2011:

Star Wars: The Old Republic
Portal 2
Dragon Age 2

Best Story of 2011

Once upon a time there was a little game developer with big dreams.  Every night he would code till he fell a sleep.  While sleeping at the keyboard elves would come and remove the bugs from his code. This allowed the developer to create a fantastic game, unaware of the precious help he received.  Despite perfect code the developer never let it go to his head, and as such he always retained the help he needed.

A story can uplift the soul and keep the mind interested in something for hours upon hours.  Authors have become far more integrated in gaming as the years have gone on, and now we get to reward a game for taking a great amount of time weaving a majestic story.  Our nominees are:

Catherine
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception
Bastion

Conversations with IrishPride Episode 8

It's About Time!!!

Hello my fellow geeks!  Welcome to episode 8 of Conversations with IrishPride.  First off, I have to apologize for not posting an episode for the past couple of weeks; I'm not going to let this segment die off like the last time!

Today I'm going to talk to you about the release date FINALLY being announced by BioWare and LucasArts for Star Wars: The Old Republic.  Click here to check out the full statement about its release.  At E3 this year, I chose Star Wars: The Old Republic as my most anticipated game and it's finally on its way.  This coming Christmas, December 20, 2011 to be exact, we will at long last get our hands on the retail copy and it's about time for a sci-fi MMO, something that's not EVE.  So be sure to plan vacation times accordingly.

I've stopped playing WoW a while ago and no longer play RIFT.  To be honest, I haven't even been in the mood to play a MMO.  Life has been busy lately, but in a good way.  I haven't played many video games all that much, but I know for a fact that I'll definitely jump all in when The Old Republic lands at my doorstep.

So, are you guys all geeked up about Star Wars: The Old Republic like I am?  Or is this just another MMO in your eyes.  Also, if you are going to play, are you going in be apart of the Republic or Empire?

Leave your comments below and until next time, be sure to look out for my max level bounty hunter!
