Hello faithful readers, and welcome to this weeks installment of The Professional Gamer. Last week, I spent a lot of time talking about Mod Psycho 100 and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. I haven’t watched Slime yet this week. And as I discussed last week, I may not end up watching it at all. What did I do? Keep reading to find out. Just a reminder, spoilers for current season anime below. If you aren’t caught up, you may want to do that before you continue reading.Read More
Well, this has been a fun end to a week. I had a quick day trip out to Albuquerque (via plane) to have a look at a project site. I'll be posting this on Saturday afternoon, but as of late on Friday, I'm on a train heading from the Denver Airport back to my house. In other news, I caught back up on the seasonal anime. Well, for the most part. I have one more episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime to watch. Come to think of it, I guess I'm not actually watching a whole lot of anime this season. I'd change that, but it might mean watching some of the shows that, at least on first appearance, seem a little trashy. This intro has gone on long enough, let's get to the meat. Spoilers abound for Mob Psycho 100 and Slime; you have been warned.Read More
We’re halfway through December and almost to the end of the year now. I’ve had a fairly good week in terms of finding time to enjoy myself. I was finally able to watch the end of one of my favorite animated series, and I got my fancy new laptop that can actually play games and doesn’t hang whenever I try to change tabs in Chrome. And that’s made me very happy. I also had time to finish binge-watching another new animated series and watch Crystal play Dragon Quest XI. I guess I have a lot to write about this week. Best get started.Read More

Debuting in the Colorado convention scene this year is the Colorado Anime Fest, a new anime oriented event organized by Corey Wood and William Foss with help from numerous veteran convention staff. Knowing this, all of us here at the Gameslave had high hopes for this convention. We were not disappointed. The convention organization and programming were both really great. The contrast between a small, first year convention and the huge, established conventions that I have typically attending for the past few years is astounding. I think I had forgotten what it is like to be able to move around a hotel with ease, attend panels without waiting in lines, and generally have a good relaxing time with other fans.Read More
Hi everyone! The first day of Nan Desu Kan 2015 has come and gone, and it has been a great day. The new hotel seems to be working out great so far, and the new, larger Artist's Alley is filled with all sorts of cool artists. I went to Opening Ceremonies, since it tends to be a good opportunity to meet the guests, and get a better idea of what they look like in person.
Later, I went to Jan Scott-Frazier's panel on Translating Anime and Manga. Jan has 14 years of experience in the animation industry including as an animator, writer, and translator. She discussed some of the basic concerns that any translator has when they approach a work, whether it is Beowulf or Lupin the Third. Then, she discussed some of the particularities of translating Japanese works into English. Overall, the panel was informative and entertaining.
That's all that I have for today, Stay tuned here, and follow me on Twitter for more updates throughout the day. Game on!
